FIND YOUR TRIBE
I was thrilled to have been selected by the International Emerging Award to create an installation for the DIFC Art Night in Dubai.
My art installation, ‘Find Your Tribe’ explores the idea of belonging. It explores the idea of an individual’s identity, within a group. The idea that everyone has a different – yet simultaneously overlapping – set of qualities. And, that you experience the most growth when you find people who complement parts of your being and awareness.
Behind-the-Scenes, Part 1
Images showing the moulding process.
Historically, a tribe existed to protect and nurture its members and increase chances of survival. Although times have changed and boundaries are more blurred, there’s still a basic need for human connection. A need to find your own group of individuals to inspire the growth, play, nurturing, and protection that come with human connection.
Using my face as a mould, through a series of plaster masks, I explored this concept of connecting to your spiritual tribe. A tribe that doesn’t have to be formally stated, or even recognised outside of an individual’s experiences.
Behind-the-Scenes, Part 2
…..Playing with forms and layers. Exploring the idea of a spiritual tribe.
….. Dubai-fying the pieces, adding gloss and bright colours to make this piece of public art more playful.
Solving the nuts and bolts – many trips to the hardware store and experiments finding the right connections.
