Having lived in many places around the world, from the Middle East, to Europe, to North America, I’m often struck at the similarities that unite us – and yet, at the small differences that make us intriguing to one another. Urbanscapes are such a brilliant reflection of culture in that everything combines; history mixes with contemporary culture, and a cross-section of people.
‘Places’ is an exploration of the various cities I’ve fallen in love with. It’s my celebration of world colour, pattern, and texture, mixed with human.
“You will never be completely at home again, because part of your heart always will be elsewhere. That is the price you pay for the richness of loving and knowing people in more than one place.” – Miriam Adeney
The artworks in this collection feature layers of collage, and a rawness that reflects the urban texture inspiration. The markings in these compositions are expressive and uncontrolled – though very intentional. They are prints of originals that were created using mixed media such as pastels, ink, and acrylic on a canvas, collage, or textured paper substrate.
