Travel Diaries: Toronto All Stars

TORONTO ALL STARS

I absolutely loved my neighbourhood in the few years I spent living in Toronto.  The Distillery District, which once housed a whiskey distillery, is now lined with cobblestone streets, art galleries, and hip indie restaurants, bars, and boutiques.  My favourite place was Balzaac’s, a coffee shop with the best coffee, and chocolate-almond croissants to die for 😉

Outside of the Distillery District, other pieces and experiences of the city that inspired me included Frank Gehry’s fluid staircase at the Art Gallery of Ontario, vibrant greenery in parks dotted throughout my daily routes, a ferry ride to Thousand Islands, and fossils and dinosaur skeletons at the Royal Ontario Museum.

Featured Piece: Toronto All Stars

Although I’d lived here for a little while, it wasn’t until a friend from out-of-town was visiting that I went to see the Blue Jays play – and win – a baseball game at the Rogers Centre in downtown Toronto. This piece was inspired by that afternoon; the colour palette features summery shades of blue and lavender, sunkissed coral and yellow, all offset with charcoal greys for an urban feel.
